Check out Maureen Folk's new article on titled: Moving Monoliths: Easter Island and Environmental Collapse. This research used experimental archaeology in order to assess the amount of raw material needed in order to move the moai of Easter Island. In turn, this addresses the question: was moving these statues the ultimate cause of ecological collapse on the island?
